This disease can be destructive if infections occur on young plants under favorable conditions. Infection is usually limited to outer or overly mature leaves once the heads have developed. This fungus infects after rain or dew persists for more than 9 hours. Avoid overhead irrigation to reduce leaf wetness. Thoroughly clean up plant debris after harvest and plant cabbage and related crops in another area next year. Preventative fungicides can be used for control. Refer to the appropriate Virginia Pest Management Guide for details.
